First Post

About 8 months ago I went on a cheese making course at ARC in Irene, Gauteng. I learnt the basics of making cheese - Feta, Gouda, Cottage, Haloumi and Ricotta.

Since September 2009 I have learnt so much more from the disasters, the happy accidents and from interacting with other great cheese makers. From Rina & Norman of Balnori in Bapsfontein who have been going for about 7 years and who have won so many awards and yet still want to help the new kids on the block.

I have days when I have thought why do I do this because it is hard work and involves many hours of watching the pots. When I managed to get a second for my Haloumi at the SA Dairy show and also at the Bloomfontein Agricultural show though it made all the difference.

I sell at one market here in Benoni and my goats cheese products are all made with milk from a local goat farm in Benoni. I also make cows milk cheese and that is purchased from the Irene Farm in David Livingstone Drive.

I hope someone out there will tune in to my blog and feel free to give advise and also to enjoy the learning process as I go along.
